As an Engineering & Energy Associate, you'll join a structured rotational graduate programme designed to provide end-to-end exposure across our Engineering & Energy function. Over a series of placements, you'll gain hands‑on experience across multiple engineering disciplines, learning how engineering strategy is developed, delivered and maintained at scale.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone newly graduated looking to build a broad technical foundation while developing the skills and experience needed for a future career in engineering leadership or specialist engineering roles.

You will be responsible for
  • Participating in a structured rotational programme across our Engineering & Energy teams, taking ownership of your personal learning and development.
  • Supporting engineering design, standards, specifications and innovation activities across multiple engineering disciplines alongside technical specialists and design authorities.
  • Gaining practical experience supporting the delivery of capital replacement and upgrade programmes across the UK estate, including project management, commercial decision‑making, site delivery and assurance activities.
  • Supporting compliance and assurance programmes across safety‑critical and high‑risk asset categories, including fire safety and petroleum infrastructure.
  • Contributing to the management of Tesco's energy consumption through exception reporting, data analysis, performance insights, carbon reporting and renewable energy initiatives.
  • Using data, digital tools and analytics to support engineering decision‑making, asset performance and energy management activities.
  • Visiting sites across the UK to observe and support project delivery, asset operation, contractor management and safe working practices within a live retail environment.
  • Supporting supplier meetings, design reviews, innovation discovery activities, trials and pilot programmes to understand how engineering solutions are developed and implemented.
  • Working collaboratively with various stakeholders to support engineering design, compliance and energy management processes.
  • Building an understanding of how large‑scale engineering organisations operate through engagement with industry bodies, professional institutions and external events.
  • Actively participating in health & safety, risk management and professional development activities while building a strong foundation for a long-term engineering career.
You will need Essential
  • Degree, or expected degree, in an engineering-related discipline such as Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Systems Engineering, Automation Engineering or similar.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A willingness to travel to locations across the UK as part of the programme.
  • A genuine interest in engineering within large‑scale built environments, infrastructure or industrial operations.
Desirable
  • An interest in sustainability, energy efficiency and decarbonisation.
  • Experience using data analysis tools or digital technologies.
  • Exposure to engineering projects, placements, internships or relevant extracurricular activities.
  • Interest in emerging technologies, automation and innovation.
