Trainee CAD Designer Department: CAD Design Team
Location:
Totton, Southampton Salary: £26,227.50 Role Summary As a Trainee CAD Designer, you will learn to produce schematic drawings in line with company standards while developing core skills in electrical panel design. You will support the creation, updating, and revision of technical drawings, including electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and general arrangement drawings. The role also involves maintaining accurate documentation, version control, and change logs, while building knowledge of industry standards, components, and safety requirements through structured training.
Key Responsibilities Produce 2D schematic drawings in line with company standards Assist with electrical panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and general arrangement drawings Update and maintain drawing documentation and revision control Support change management and drawing updates Participate in full in-house training on products and systems Develop understanding of company products and their functionality Ensure all drawings are accurate, clearly labelled, and compliant with standards Personal Specification Essential Requirements Qualifications & Training T-Level (Level
3) Electrical & Electronic Engineering OR BTEC Level 3 Certificate in Engineering (Electrical & Electronic Pathway) OR equivalent qualification Experience No prior experience required (full in-house training provided) Skills & Attributes Strong attention to detail Able to work calmly and meet deadlines Adaptable in a changing environment Good communication skills Team player with strong collaboration skills Self-motivated with a willingness to learn Desirable Qualifications City & Guilds Level 3 in CAD Experience Basic understanding of electrical or mechanical principles Awareness of ENA TS 50-18 & 50-19 / NGTS 2.19 (training provided if not known) Some experience using CAD software Tools & Software AutoCAD Solid Works MS Office Suite MS Project Personal Qualities Strong problem-solving ability Creative mindset Interest in continuous learning Soft Skills Attention to detail Problem-solving Communication Teamwork and collaboration Self-motivation Creativity
