To manage and advise on the Health and Safety function of Ambala Foods across its manufacturing site and shops. You will be responsible for managing risk, conducting audits, investigating incidents, and implementing health and safety management systems.
Ensuring standards are maintained, regulatory compliance, employee well-being, and professional delivery of the Health and Safety compliance strategy. You will report to the Head of Compliance and ensure adherence to regulatory, statutory requirements and best practice guidance.
- To develop and maintain a proficient Health and Safety Management System for a Factory Environment and shops.
- Maintain accurate records relating to Fire, Accidents, First Aid, Fire Extinguishers and other precautionary measures.
- Evaluate accident and ‘near miss’s data/trends, to ensure lessons are identified to inform H&S reports, future policy, procedures and risk assessments.
- Oversee all emergency arrangements.
- Maintain a hazard log.
- Assist with environmental, COSHH, FRA, DSE, Personal risk assessments and developing Safe Systems of Work across all sites.
- Investigate workplace accidents and near misses, ensuring timely, corrective and preventative actions are taken.
- Advise on and ensure that all relevant and compliant H&S Training courses are included in the training Matrix and are completed by relevant employees.
- Provide health and safety training and inductions to employees, ensuring that they understand workplace risks and procedures.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections of work areas to identify hazards and areas for improvement.
- Foster a positive Health and Safety Culture, encouraging employee participation and involvement in safety initiatives.
- Manage Health and Safety communication across all sites including managing a Health and Safety Committee.
- Maintain and improve health and safety management systems such as HSG
65/ISO 45001 to ensure compliance. - Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth and effective implementation of Health and Safety Practices.
- Assist with complying with the H&S legislative requirements.
- Assist with complying with a Good Food Manufacturing environment.
- Degree in Occupational Safety and Health with proven experience in a similar role within a food manufacturing environment.
- Must be pro‑active, understand the supply chain within a food manufacturing environment and be able to communicate at all levels.
- Knowledge of food safety and quality management systems and at least 2 years’ experience within a food factory.
- Proven Communication skills at various levels within an organization.
- Proven experience in managing people.
- Educated to GCSE level Math’s and English as a minimum (E)
- BA in Occupational Safety & Health or other related subjects
- NEBOSH Diploma or relevant Health & Safety at Work qualification (E)
- NVQ Level 2 and above in Occupational Health and Safety (E)
- IOSH Managing Safely (E)
- Food Safety Awareness/L2 (D)
- Knowledge of Current H&S legislation.
- Awareness of Food Safety Legislation.
- Keen interest in H&S and Welfare.
- Clear understanding of the importance of creating a safe environment.
- Ability to prioritise workload and manage time effectively.
- Good organisation and administrative skills.
- Must have a ‘Can Do’ attitude.
- Ability to use Microsoft office packages including excel.
- Ability to work effectively with others, exercising good initiative and judgement.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing and have good numeracy skills.
- Ability to relate to staff at all levels with tact and diplomacy.
- A warm, open personality with an approachable and professional manner.
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.

- To attend training courses as agreed with the Head of Compliance as part of your professional development
- Ability to walk around the Offices, Warehouse and Production areas to carry out monitoring and audits.
- Ability to carry out some manual handling of objects, equipment and machinery and to look into confined areas.
- Ability to carry out first aid and fire marshal duties
