Hours:

36 Hours per Week | Monday to Friday Pay Rate: £18.65 PAYE / £24.65 Umbrella

Temporary Ongoing Assignment Immediate Start Available Are you an experienced Billing & Collections Officer with a background in Council Tax, Revenues, Billing or Local Authority Collections ? We are currently recruiting for a dedicated professional to join a busy Customer Engagement & Proactive Support Team within a leading Local Authority. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in supporting residents, maximising Council Tax collection rates, and helping vulnerable customers access the support they need.

Essential Requirement Candidates must have previous experience within Council Tax, Revenues, Billing, Collections, or a similar Local Authority environment. Applicants without relevant experience will not be considered.

The Role Working within a proactive customer engagement team, you will focus on early intervention and resident support, helping to prevent arrears from escalating and promoting sustainable payment arrangements.

Key Responsibilities Contact residents who have missed Council Tax instalments via telephone, email and SMS. Encourage the uptake of Direct Debit payments and support residents in establishing affordable repayment arrangements. Identify signs of financial hardship and vulnerability, referring customers to appropriate support services where required. Engage with residents who have outstanding in-year arrears to minimise escalation and recovery action. Work closely with Housing Services to ensure Council Tax accounts are updated promptly for property voids, tenancy changes and new occupancies.

Collaborate with the Private Rented Sector Licensing Team to identify new landlord properties and ensure accurate and timely billing. Deliver excellent customer service while maintaining collection targets and performance standards. Required Skills & Experience Previous experience working within Council Tax, Revenues, Billing, Collections or Recovery services. Local Authority experience is highly desirable. Experience handling customer accounts, payment arrangements and arrears cases.

Strong telephone and customer engagement skills. Ability to deal sensitively with vulnerable residents and challenging situations. Excellent communication and negotiation skills. Strong IT skills and experience using revenues or billing systems. Ability to work independently while managing a busy workload. What's On Offer?
