Job SummaryAdministers patient care in an area of a hospital or inpatient/observation setting where an acute care patient receives active treatment for injury, illness, or post‑intervention assessment.
Essential Functions- Demonstrates critical knowledge, skills, and judgement to care for patients requiring complex assessment and therapies, high‑intensity interventions, and continuous vigilance.
- Utilizes information and assessment data to anticipate and respond with confidence and adapt to rapidly changing patient conditions.
- Identifies and prioritizes information to take immediate, evidence‑based, patient‑focused action.
- Monitors and adjusts specialized equipment, interpreting electronic displays such as intracranial pressures, central venous pressures, pulmonary artery pressures, cardiac rhythms, respirators, ventilators, and more.
- Responds to life‑saving situations based on nursing standards and protocol.
- Observes and assesses patients’ condition, recognizing serious situations and calling a physician or taking pre‑planned emergency measures when a physician is not available.
- Assesses patient needs, develops/revises individualized plans of care, and evaluates progress toward outcomes.
- Respects diversity by building respectful relationships with all team members and customers.
- Acts as a patient and family advocate.
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge and skills appropriate to the age of patients served on the unit.
- Serves as preceptor, charge nurse, unit educator, and/or nurse clinician.
- Communicates and collaborates with medical staff and interdisciplinary teams to plan and manage the unit/department.
- Serves as a role model for staff, supporting the hospital and nursing department’s goals and strategies.
- Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development over the life span and interprets data to identify individual patient requirements.
- Coordinates and delegates care to appropriate team members.
- Documents patient care consistently, meeting regulatory standards for assessment, education, medication administration, treatments, and safety.
- Exhibits competency in nursing skills and use of unit equipment as required.
- Prioritizes patient care according to Evidence‑Based Practice Standards.
- Practices effective problem identification and resolution.
- Delegates tasks to team members in accordance with patient needs and team members’ capabilities.
- Communicates patient condition or unit concerns to other health‑care team members.
- Demonstrates caring practices, providing a compassionate environment for patients and families.
- Shows awareness of legal issues and patient rights.
- Collaborates with finance and leadership to support transition and new team members.
- Maintains punctual attendance per Orlando Health policies and legal standards.
- Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
- Contributes to knowledge and skills of others and continuous improvement of care practice.
- Participates in and may lead unit or organization committees on nursing practice.
- Participates in peer review and coaching regarding practice or performance.
- Uses supplies efficiently and maintains a clean, safe workspace.

- Assumes responsibility for own professional development and continuing education.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Graduate of an approved school of nursing. Meets all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Orlando Health and the unit/department.
Licensure / Certification- Maintains current State of Florida RN license.
- Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
- ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC required for certain areas.
1 year experience required.
