Job SummaryAdministers complex patient care in the Cardiac Cath Lab, a high‑dependency setting that requires a low caregiver‑to‑patient ratio and advanced clinical skills to stabilize and support patients with life‑threatening cardiac conditions.
Essential Functions- Demonstrate critical knowledge, skills, and judgement to care for patients requiring high‑intensity interventions and continuous nursing vigilance.
- Utilize information and assessment data to anticipate and respond confidently to rapidly changing patient conditions.
- Identify and prioritize information to take immediate, evidence‑based, patient‑focused action.
- Monitor and adjust specialized equipment on patients, interpreting and recording data from cardiac monitors, ventilators, oxygen pumps, etc.
- Respond to life‑saving situations based on nursing standards and protocol.
- Observe, monitor, and assess patients’ conditions, recognizing and interpreting serious situations and initiating preplanned emergency measures when physicians are not immediately available.
- Assess patients’ needs, develop or revise individualized care plans, and evaluate progress toward expected outcomes.
- Respect diversity by building respectful relationships with all team members and patients.
- Act as a patient and family advocate.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills appropriate to the age of the patients served.
- Serve as a preceptor, charge nurse, unit educator, and/or nurse clinician.
- Communicate and collaborate with medical staff and interdisciplinary team to effectively plan and manage unit/department care.
- Function as a role model for staff and support the hospital and nursing department’s goals and strategies.
- Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan, assessing data reflective of patient status, and interpreting needed information for age‑specific care.
- Coordinate care and delegate appropriately to other team members for a defined group of patients.
- Document patient care consistently, meeting all required regulatory standards.
- Demonstrate competency in nursing skills and use of patient‑care equipment as defined by unit/department requirements.
- Prioritize patient care continuously in accordance with Evidence‑Based Practice Standards of Care.
- Practice effective problem identification and resolution.
- Delegate tasks and duties to healthcare team members based on patient needs and team members’ capabilities and qualifications.
- Communicate relevant information regarding patient condition or unit concerns to other healthcare team members.
- Demonstrate caring practices by providing a compassionate and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
- Demonstrate awareness of legal issues and patients’ rights.
- Collaborate with education and nursing leadership to transition and support new team members and/or students.
- Maintain punctual attendance in accordance with policy, ADA, FMLA, and other standards.
- Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
- Contribute to the knowledge and skills of others, enhancing quality of care and organizational outcomes.
- Participate in or lead unit or organizational nursing practice and performance‑improvement committees.
- Participate in peer review, mentoring, and coaching regarding professional practice or role performance.
- Practice efficient use of supplies and maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
- Attend staff‑development in‑services, department meetings, and nursing committee meetings.
- Partner with nursing leadership to identify professional‑development needs.
- Assume responsibility for personal professional development and continuing education.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Maintain equipment and supplies for ECMO/perfusion services; provide pertinent information to supervisor/director with biomedical or vendors.
- Provide critical nursing support to CVICU or other areas as directed when ECLS services are not provided.
Graduate of an approved school of nursing. Meets all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Orlando Health and the unit/department.
Licensure/Certification- Maintain current State of Florida RN license.
- Maintain current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
- ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC required for certain areas.
1 year experience required.
