The Deputy Sheriff participates in the Take Home Squad Program with a competitive salary schedule.
Responsibilities- Enforce federal and state laws, Wisconsin Motor Vehicle Code, and county ordinances.
- Perform police patrol tours, protect persons and property, and prevent crime.
- Investigate complaints, accidents, and collect evidence.
- Maintain accurate reports and utilize the Mobile Data Terminal.
- Serve civil process, court security, and transport subjects to and from court.
- Direct traffic and perform law‑enforcement duties at special events.
- Attend court appearances, schools, and training courses.
- Operate squad cars, snowmobiles, boats, or other specialized vehicles as required.
- Comply with standard operating procedures, official orders, and directives.
- Maintain firearms proficiency, CPR certification, emergency vehicle operation, and other required certifications.
- Perform additional duties as necessary, including emergency response.
- Citizen of the United States, 20 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent;
Associate Degree or 60 college credits from an accredited school. - No felony or serious misdemeanor convictions under Wisconsin law.
- Good physical condition, ability to distinguish colors, valid driver’s license with vision correctable to 20/20.
- No visible tattoos that depict violence, profanity, supremacy, drug culture, or anti‑government content; no discriminatory tattoos or extreme body modifications.
- Must pass a written examination (unless exempt by prior experience) and an oral examination.
- Must pass the physical examination, drug screening, audiogram, and optional psychological exam.
- Must establish residency in Washington County or surrounding counties by the end of the probationary period.
Salary range: $31.92 to $44.98 per hour, with progressive increases over a five‑year period. Benefits include health, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, HSA, critical illness, hospital indemnity, accident voluntary plans, Wisconsin Retirement System, Wisconsin Deferred Compensation (IRS 457), holidays, PTO, tuition, and fitness reimbursement.
