Lateral Transfers:
The Sheriff will determine pay and vacation for officers transferring from another agency on a case‑by‑case basis. An officer’s years of experience as a sworn law enforcement officer and their previous employers’ benefits will be taken into consideration.

Deadline for filing applications is January 9, 2026.

Testing will be on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 8:30 am.

Candidates will be selected for a written test based on prior work experience and history, job performance, knowledge, skills and ability and will be notified of testing.

Applicants with two years of full‑time law enforcement experience and currently employed with a law enforcement agency in a sworn position will be exempt from the written test.

Qualifications
  • All applicants shall be citizens of the United States.
  • All applicants shall be 20 years of age at the time of application.
  • Applicants shall have a high school diploma or the equivalent thereof.
  • Applicants shall have an Associate Degree or sixty (60) college credits from an accredited technical school, college or university.
  • Applicants shall not have been convicted of a criminal offense equivalent to a felony or a serious misdemeanor under Wisconsin law.
  • Applicants shall be in good physical condition with weight proportioned to height.
  • Applicants must have the ability to distinguish colors.
  • Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license with vision correctable to 20/20.
  • Applicants shall not have visible tattoos that are labeled violent, depict graphic violence, profanity, supremacy, drug culture, or could be interpreted as anti‑government in nature. Racist or discriminatory tattoos that advocate the degradation of a person based on race, ethnicity, national origin, or gender are also prohibited. All other forms of intentional body mutilation or modification (scarring, excessive piercing/stretching, tongue splitting) are not allowed.
  • All applicants for the position of Deputy Sheriff who successfully complete the written examination shall be graded on the basis of thirty percent of their total score applied to the written examination and seventy percent of the total score applied to the oral examination. The number of applicants interviewed will be determined by the needs of the Department. Successful applicants will be required to successfully pass a physical examination, with a weight‑lifting minimum requirement of 75 lbs.,

    audiogram and drug screening prior to appointment. A psychological examination including a polygraph may be required.
