Lateral Transfers:
The Sheriff will determine pay and vacation for officers transferring from another agency on a case‑by‑case basis. An officer’s years of experience as a sworn law enforcement officer and their previous employers’ benefits will be taken into consideration.
Deadline for filing applications is January 9, 2026.
Testing will be on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 8:30 am.
Candidates will be selected for a written test based on prior work experience and history, job performance, knowledge, skills and ability and will be notified of testing.
Applicants with two years of full‑time law enforcement experience and currently employed with a law enforcement agency in a sworn position will be exempt from the written test.
QualificationsAll applicants for the position of Deputy Sheriff who successfully complete the written examination shall be graded on the basis of thirty percent of their total score applied to the written examination and seventy percent of the total score applied to the oral examination. The number of applicants interviewed will be determined by the needs of the Department. Successful applicants will be required to successfully pass a physical examination, with a weight‑lifting minimum requirement of 75 lbs.,
audiogram and drug screening prior to appointment. A psychological examination including a polygraph may be required.
