Metal Finisher - 1st Shift (West Bend)

The Metal Finisher is primarily responsible for grinding, filing, or sanding surfaces of metal items or parts.
Responsibilities- Examines and feels surface of metal to detect defects such as dents, scratches, or breaks in metal.
- Removes dents, using hammer and dolly block, and fills uneven surface with molten solder.
- Smooths surface of item to specified finish, using handtools and powered tools.
- May polish metal surface, using powered polishing wheel or belt.
- Examines finished work pieces to verify conformance with specifications according to operator inspection sheet, quality control plans and/or customer notes using instruments such as gauges.
- Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follows prescribed safety regulations.
- Ensures compliance with corporate and plant safety standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrated detail orientation, self‑motivation skills and ability to multi‑task.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats.
- Competent at basic dimensional measuring and able to quickly learn the use of precision measurement tools.
- Demonstrated competency in basic shop math.
- Previous experience with overhead crane use is desired.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively implement or respond to change.
- Work in an efficient and timely manner.
- Aptitude to take orders and execute the same efficiently.
Equipment Operated:
Welder, lifts, robots, cranes.
Moderate to heavy physical effort required to perform the basis essentials of the job. Frequently required to bend and stoop. Specific vision abilities required: close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work EnvironmentRegularly exposed to varying temperature conditions between 60-100 degrees Fahrenheit, loud noise, moving machinery parts, airborne particles, and fumes from production equipment.
