WEST BEND at our FROEDTERT WEST BEND HOSPITAL facility. This job is ON - SITE.
Under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse, the Nurse Extern provides routine care and assists patients with activities of daily living. Responsible to the Patient Care Director of the assigned unit and the RN's on duty on each shift. Other duties as assigned.
ExperienceIf in a 4-year program, a minimum experience of two acute care medical-surgical clinical rotations (or one medical-surgical rotation and one pertinent clinical rotation) from an accredited nursing school is required. If in a 2-year program or accelerated/direct entry, must have completed one medical-surgical clinical rotation followed by pertinent work experience. At least one rotation must have included medication administration. Nursing courses must provide theory, knowledge, and experience in patient care, procedures, physical assessments, history data, care plans, and documentation.
Experience of six months or more as a nursing assistant is preferred.
Currently enrolled in an accredited School of Nursing is required, or a graduate of an accredited School preparing to take the NCLEX or waiting to retake the NCLEX.
Special SkillsAbility to read, write, understand, perform simple arithmetic, and follow directions related to basic patient care. Interpersonal skills required to interact with patients, visitors, and physicians courteously. Ability to perform simple numerical comparisons. Ability to concentrate and pay attention to detail for 80% of work time when performing basic patient care tasks. Ability to walk, stand up to 80% of work time, and lift/position patients up to 20% of work time.
LicensureState of Wisconsin Nursing Assistant Certification is preferred, otherwise must provide documentation from an accredited school for professional nurses indicating successful completion of the basic nursing course. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for the Healthcare Provider (BLS) or a comparable equivalent is required within 90 days of hire.
