Junior Specialist Doctor - Higher in Stroke Medicine
We are seeking an enthusiastic and hardworking doctor to join our Stroke Team as a Junior Specialty Doctor – Higher at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH).
This is a one-year fixed‑term post, commencing as soon as possible, with the potential for longer‑term opportunities within the Trust subject to satisfactory performance and progression. The post is suitable for doctors at IMT3+ level (typically 4–5 years post‑qualification). While this is not a formally approved training post, the successful applicant will have access to training opportunities comparable to those offered to doctors in recognised training posts.
The JSD‑H role provides an excellent opportunity to consolidate and further develop stroke medicine experience within a supportive and well‑structured team. The post offers wide‑ranging clinical exposure and training within a progressive Trust that has received numerous national and local awards.
Main duties of the jobWe are keen to work with the successful applicant to provide exposure to the full breadth of Stroke Medicine, tailored to their individual training needs and career aspirations. The post holder will work at registrar level within Stroke Medicine. Core responsibilities include supporting the inpatient care of stroke patients and facilitating the admission of new patients directly to the stroke unit during normal working hours.
A substantial proportion of the role will involve hyper‑acute stroke care, including the assessment of patients presenting acutely to the Emergency Department. SWBH operates as a Hyperacute Stroke Unit (HASU), providing thrombolysis for eligible patients and referring suitable cases for mechanical thrombectomy to the regional thrombectomy centre.
The successful candidate will gain significant experience across all aspects of hyper‑acute stroke care and will be well supported to develop the knowledge and skills required for independent practice.
