Key Responsibilities- Support children’s learning and development in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum and whole‑school expectations.
- Provide individual and small‑group support, adapting teaching approaches to meet the needs of all learners, including those with SEND.
- Confident to work with groups of children covering all aspects of the 7 areas of learning within the EYFS framework.
- Support the teaching of phonics, particularly using the Read Write Inc. (RWI) scheme, to develop children’s early reading and writing skills.
- Flexibly support across different year groups when needed to ensure consistency and continuity of care and learning.
- Be prepared to take charge of a group or class in an emergency situation under the direction of the Head Teacher or other designated staff, for a period not greater than one working day.
- Work collaboratively as part of a team, maintaining positive relationships with colleagues, pupils, and parents.
- Have a proven record of working in partnership with class teachers which has resulted in good attainment and progress for children.
- Assist in maintaining a safe, secure, and stimulating learning environment, ensuring children’s well‑being and safety at all times.
- Support personal care, social development, emotional regulation, and administering first aid as required, particularly for younger pupils or those with additional needs.
- Observe, assess, and record pupils’ progress, contributing to planning and delivering tailored support strategies.
- Encourage positive behaviour management strategies in line with school policies.
- Assist in setting up, preparing, and organising resources for activities.
- Provide support for children during transitions, lunchtimes, and outdoor learning.
- Be an effective practitioner with the ability and desire to improve their practice.
- Have high expectations of yourself and others.
- Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Be highly organised, motivated and flexible with the ability to inspire and challenge children.
- Be able to promote the vision and values of the school, demonstrating high professional standards.
- Hold a Level 3 qualification eg CACHE, BTEC, NNEB (in early years education and childcare).
- GCSE grade C or above in English & Maths.
- Have substantial experience working with children in Early Years.
- Have knowledge and experience of delivering phonics, particularly using the Read Write Inc. (RWI) scheme.
- Be flexible and willing to work across different year groups if required.
- Have experience supporting children with SEND and an understanding of inclusive teaching strategies.
- Be a team player, able to collaborate effectively with staff, parents, and external agencies.
- Be caring, patient, and enthusiastic, with a strong commitment to supporting children’s well‑being and development.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, building strong relationships with pupils and colleagues.
- Be committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children.
- Hold a paediatric first aid qualification (desirable) or be willing to undertake training.
- Be proactive, adaptable, and able to use their initiative in a busy school environment.

Hours:
13 hours per week (2 days) Monday and Tuesday
Grade:
Band D SCP 9
-17 (£27,254 - £31,022) pro rata (Actual salary £8,544 - £9,767)
Contract Type:
Fixed term until 31 August 2027 due to SEN funding
