Location: Wednesbury

Are you a Cost Engineer with experience working for main contractors on construction projects?

Do you have Cost Control experience in labour, plant, or materials?

Salary: £30,000 £ 34,000 per annum
Location: Wednesbury, on site 5 days per week

This is an excellent opportunity to join a leading rail contractor within their Urban/light rail division, supporting a major depot operation. You ll take ownership of cost control activities, invoice processing, and financial administration across a high-volume, fast-paced delivery environment. Working closely with commercial, engineering and finance teams, you ll ensure that plant, labour, material and subcontractor costs are accurately recorded, challenged where required, and aligned to project budgets.

The role offers strong exposure to major civils and rail infrastructure, with genuine opportunities to build deeper commercial expertise in a supportive and collaborative team.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience in a cost engineering or cost control role within construction, rail, civils or engineering environments, or substantial experience as a Cost Clerk handling cost control and invoicing tasks
  • Strong understanding of construction project cost elements including plant, labour, materials, depot operations and subcontract packages
  • Demonstrable experience processing invoices, checking alignment with purchase orders and ensuring accurate cost allocation
  • Confidence engaging with suppliers to query costs, challenge discrepancies and ensure accurate charging
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail
  • Degree-qualified in a relevant discipline (such as Quantity Surveying, Engineering or Construction Management) is preferred
  • Familiarity with cost control systems such as Copernic, JADE, LISA or similar
  • Membership of ACostE or a similar professional body is advantageous

Nice to Have:

  • Background in civils disciplines such as drainage, piling or concrete works
  • Experience working at scale with high-volume invoicing or large monthly cost cycles
  • Prior work in depot or maintenance environments
  • Ability to support elements of change control and cost impact analysis
