People Solutions are currently recruiting for an Estimator / Buyer to join a highly respected engineering and fabrication business based in Wednesbury, West Midlands. This is a full-time, permanent opportunity offering an excellent salary and the chance to work on one-off, bespoke engineering projects across a range of specialist industries.
Hours & Salary
• Monday to Friday: 08:00 - 16:00• £40,000 per annum
• Full-time, permanent position (new role to the business)

Day-to-Day Duties
As an Estimator / Buyer, your duties will include (but are not limited to):
• Estimating projects from concept designs or detailed drawings and specifications
• Completing material take-offs and calculating labour, materials, and equipment costs
• Producing accurate and competitive project bids
• Obtaining quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
• Assessing project risks and applying appropriate contingencies
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications
• Collaborating with engineers, designers, and project teams to finalise costings
• Purchasing materials and services in line with approved estimates
• Maintaining cost data and calculations using systems such as Excel
Essential Skills
The skills required for this Estimator / Buyer role are:
• Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Metallurgical Engineering, or equivalent
• Proven experience within heavy engineering environments
• Experience working on one-off or batch production projects
• Strong understanding of welding standards (ARC, MIG, TIG)
• Knowledge of European structural standards
• Experience working with ISO 9001 quality management systems
• Ability to work with technical documentation including WPS and inspection plans
• Excellent communication skills with both technical teams and clients
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
Desirable Experience
• Experience working on bespoke, non-repetitive engineering projects
• Knowledge of mechanical handling systems, kilns, furnaces, or refractory linings
