Overview

Salary: £70,000 to £75,000 per annum with excellent benefits

Sandwell College is seeking to appoint an Assistant Director of Estates (Engineering) to join its senior Estates leadership team.

As the largest provider of 16–19 study programmes in the West Midlands, the Sandwell family of colleges spans four campuses – Central Campus, Central St Michael’s, Cadbury College, and the new specialist Science and Engineering Centre in West Bromwich. Each campus offers a high‑quality, inclusive and aspirational learning environment that supports the College’s mission to deliver outstanding education and training that enhances life chances and strengthens economic prosperity for learners, communities, and employers.

The Assistant Director of Estates (Engineering) will play a central leadership role, providing strategic direction and operational oversight across all mechanical, electrical and building services functions within a complex multi-campus estate. Working closely with the Director of Estates, the postholder will ensure that all engineering systems across the College are safe, reliable, compliant, and optimised to support a high-performing educational environment.

Responsibilities

A key part of the role will be leading the College’s energy and carbon agenda, including utilities monitoring, performance analysis and delivery of the Carbon Management Plan, supporting the organisation’s journey towards Net Zero. The postholder will also oversee the delivery of minor engineering projects and provide technical assurance for major capital developments.

Qualifications

We are seeking a highly capable engineering professional with significant experience in managing mechanical and electrical systems within large, complex or multi-site organisations. Candidates will bring strong leadership skills, a collaborative and positive approach. They will demonstrate a thorough understanding of statutory compliance, engineering safety, utilities management and the regulatory frameworks governing building services in operational environments.

Opportunity

This is an exciting and influential opportunity for an engineering leader to help shape a resilient, sustainable and future-ready estate that delivers an exceptional learning environment for current and future generations.
