Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineer Department: Engineering / MaintenanceAnnual Salary: £56,780Shift Pattern: 4 on/off - 6am to 6pm / 6pm to 6amEmployment Type: Full-Time, PermanentAbout the OpportunityWe are looking for a skilled and proactive Multi-Skilled Engineer to join our Engineering team within a high-volume sauce production facility.
You will play a key role in maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving manufacturing and packaging equipment to ensure maximum reliability, food safety compliance, and minimal production downtime.What You'll Be Doing Equipment Maintenance & Reliability
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on production and packaging machinery
- Respond quickly and effectively to breakdowns
- Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults
- Mixing vessels and blenders
- Pumps, fillers, cappers, and conveyors
- Pasteurisers, cookers, and heat exchangers
- Packaging and labelling machinery
- Electrical Systems & Controls
- Fault find on single and three-phase electrical systems
- PLC fault finding (programming not required unless specified)
- Maintain sensors, motors, inverters, and control panels
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards
- Quality, Hygiene & Compliance
- Work in line with BRCGS, HACCP, and GMP standards
- Ensure all engineering tasks meet food safety requirements
- Maintain accurate maintenance documentation
- Support audits and site inspections
- Improvement & Innovation
- Identify opportunities to improve equipment performance and efficiency
- Support installation and commissioning of new machinery
- Assist with root cause analysis and corrective actions
- Contribute to cost-saving and continuous improvement initiatives
- Safety First
- Comply with UK Health & Safety legislation
- Follow lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment
- Report hazards and near misses promptly
- Recognised engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, BTEC or equivalent)
- Experience as a Multi-Skilled Engineer within food manufacturing
- Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding ability
- Experience with high-speed production and packaging lines
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards
- Ability to work independently and within a team
- Willingness to work shifts and attend call-outs
- Desirable Skills
- Experience in sauce, condiment, or liquid food manufacturing
- PLC fault-finding experience (Siemens / Allen Bradley preferred)
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
- CMMS system experience
- Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement exposure
