HoursFull-time - 7:30am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday (40 hours/week).
Part-time or reduced hours considered.

About the CompanyOur client, a small, well-established precision engineering company supplying high-quality machined components into the automotive industry, is seeking an experienced conventional machinist. This vacancy has arisen due to a long-serving employee retiring after more than 20 years, and we are looking for someone who wants a stable, long-term position in a friendly and supportive working environment. The business has a close-knit team of four people, with two machinists on the shop floor.
RoleWe are seeking an experienced Conventional Toolroom Machinist capable of producing precision components in small batch quantities (typically 1-20 off). You will be responsible for manufacturing components from engineering drawings using manual machining equipment. This is a hands‑on role suited to a skilled machinist who enjoys varied work rather than repetitive production.
Key Responsibilities- Manufacture precision components from detailed engineering drawings
- Work to tight tolerances and high-quality standards
- Set and operate conventional/manual machines including:
- Lathes
- Milling machines
- Surface grinders
- Perform measurements and inspections using micrometers, verniers and gauges
- Carry out basic calculations for speeds, feeds, and dimensions
- Produce one-off and small batch components
- Maintain a clean and safe working area
- Previous experience as a manual/conventional machinist or toolroom machinist
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Competence using manual mills and lathes
- Experience with precision measurement equipment
Ability to work independently and manage own workload - Good attention to detail and quality standards
- Practical understanding of machining calculations (feeds, speeds, tolerances)
- Surface grinding experience
- Experience working in automotive or precision engineering environments
- Apprenticeship trained (time‑served)
- Stable long-term role in a secure business
- Varied and interesting work (no large production runs)
- Friendly small team environment
- Day shifts only – no weekends or nights
- Flexible working options considered
- 33 days annual leave
- Overtime available when required
This role would suit an experienced machinist, possibly semi‑retired or looking to move away from shift work or large factory environments, who still enjoys hands‑on machining and takes pride in producing quality components.
