Location: Smethwick

An exciting opportunity for a Band 5 Staff Nurse to cover maternity leave at the haematology ward, Midland Metropolitan University Hospital (MMUH). The role is full‑time, fixed‑term for 12 months.

The ward is a 16‑bed unit comprising all side rooms and cares for patients with a variety of malignant and non‑malignant haematological disorders, as well as Sickle Cell and Thalassemia conditions.

The department works with specialist consultants, nurses and AHPs to deliver comprehensive care that includes diagnosis, treatment, symptom control, and end‑of‑life support.

Professional development is encouraged with support from senior haematology staff.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, document, deliver, and evaluate evidence‑based nursing care for patients in collaboration with the shift coordinator, ward sister/charge nurse, and other team members.
  • Provide IV medication and chemotherapy administration (SACT passport preferred).
  • Perform intravenous cannulation and venepuncture.
  • Manage patient shift duties and maintain safe, effective daily ward operations.
  • Develop awareness of the needs of patients with cancer and understand the treatment modalities used within the ward.
  • Support and promote professional and personal development within the team.
Qualifications
  • Registered nurse (RN) with Band 5 banding.
  • Previous oncology or haematology experience is desirable.
  • Evidence of IV medication and chemotherapy administration (SACT passport) is desired.
  • Experience in intravenous cannulation and venepuncture is a plus, though full training will be provided.
  • Strong ability to plan, document, and deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based nursing care.
