About PRS Legislative Research

PRS Legislative Research (PRS) is a non‑profit organization founded in September 2005 with the aim of strengthening the legislative process in India by making it more informed, transparent, and participatory. Headquartered in New Delhi, PRS functions as an independent research body supporting Members of Parliament (MPs) with expert analysis on legislation and policy matters.

The organization was co‑founded by C.V. Madhukar and M.R. Madhavan, who currently serves as President. S. Ramadorai chairs the Board of Directors. Initially incubated at the Centre for Policy Research (CPR), PRS is now a standalone Section 8 non‑profit company, sustained through philanthropic funding from Indian donors and institutions.

About the Internship Opportunity

PRS is inviting applications for its offline research internship in Delhi, June 2025.

Key Responsibilities

Each MP in India represents more than two million constituents and must make decisions on roughly 60 bills passed annually. With a wide range of complex, technical topics to address, MPs rely on support to remain informed.

Interns at PRS assist in preparing briefings and analysis on legislative and policy matters that help MPs participate effectively in parliamentary debates.

Interns may work with:
  • The Research Team, which focuses on legislative and policy analysis.
  • The Outreach Team, which monitors legislative activity, engages with the public, and interfaces with MPs and MLAs.

You may apply to work in one or both teams, based on your interest.

Internship Structure
  • During Parliament sessions, work will revolve around ongoing legislative topics, and interns assist analysts accordingly.
  • During non‑session periods, interns are matched with analysts based on mutual interests.

Every intern must complete an independent project as part of the program.

Duration

Typically ranges from 4 to 8 weeks, with some flexibility.

Mode

Offline only – interns must be physically present in PRS’s New Delhi office.

What PRS Looks For

Interns should demonstrate:

  • A genuine interest in Parliament and policy issues
  • Strong writing and analytical skills
Stipend

This is an unpaid internship. No stipend or accommodation is provided.
