Sandwell Children’s Trust is looking for an experienced and motivated Team Manager to lead our Children with Disabilities Team (CwDT). This is an exciting opportunity to shape high‑quality services for children and young people with disabilities and complex needs, ensuring they receive the right support at the right time.

About The Service

The Children with Disabilities Team provides statutory social work support to children and young people with disabilities and their families.

The Team undertakes
  • Child in Need work
  • Child Protection work
  • Children Looked After work
  • Court work
  • Short Breaks assessments
  • Transition planning and Preparing for Adulthood support

We are committed to providing high‑quality services that help children remain safe, achieve their potential and live fulfilling lives within their families and communities.

The service is also at the heart of the development of SEND within Families First, creating exciting opportunities to strengthen partnership working, improve experiences for families and deliver more coordinated support across education, health and social care.

As Team Manager, you will
  • Lead, supervise and support a team of social workers and family support practitioners.
  • Provide robust management oversight and decision‑making across Children's Social Care statutory functions.
  • Promote high‑quality assessments, planning and interventions that improve outcomes for children and young people.
  • Support and develop staff through reflective supervision, coaching and performance management.
  • Ensure children are safeguarded and receive timely and effective support.
  • Drive quality assurance, performance and continuous improvement.
  • Work collaboratively with education, health, adult social care and wider partners.
  • Ensure children's voices remain central to assessment, planning and decision‑making.
  • Support the development and implementation of SEND within Families First, helping to embed new ways of working that strengthen coordination, inclusion and partnership working across services.
  • Contribute to service development and innovation, ensuring the needs of children with disabilities and SEND remain central to future delivery models.
You will be
  • A qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England.
  • An experienced leader with a strong understanding of children's social care legislation and practice.
  • Knowledgeable about the needs of children with disabilities, SEND and transition planning.
  • Skilled in supporting and developing practitioners to achieve their best.
  • Confident in providing management oversight and making complex decisions.
  • Committed to high standards of practice and improving outcomes for children and families.
  • Able to build effective relationships with children, families and partner agencies.
  • Enthusiastic about leading teams through change and supporting the development of new ways of working.
