Summary

The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” AIT and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g., cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities). They work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new teammates, lead, train, motivate teammates, and, in the manager’s absence, act as the Store Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Sales Generation and Guest Service
  • Greet guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and consistently provide legendary service.
  • Answer questions about the store and its merchandise.
  • Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on guest needs and desires.
  • Anticipate and fulfill guest’s needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobe experience.
  • Demonstrate product using product knowledge and sales education, sharing that knowledge with teammates.
  • Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, policies regarding payment and exchanges, and security practices.
  • Remain consistent on personal sales and seek opportunities to impact teammate presentations.
  • Achieve personal sales‑per‑hour, average sales, and total net sales goals set by Store Management.
  • Provide legendary service throughout the store in the front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and the register area.
  • Know all exchange and return procedures for guests and turn knowledge into showmanship.
  • Use the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG) daily to accomplish goals.
  • Meet or exceed performance standards in all Buckle business builders and guest loyalty programs.
  • Investigate and navigate how to expand guest selection through inventory manager and advanced product search resources.
  • Build good guest relationships to develop a client‑based business.
  • Lead by example with high showmanship, excellent customer service, and attentiveness.
  • Recognize and communicate guest levels with the team.
  • Probe business‑driven questions to managers, team leaders and teammates.
  • Be coachable; consistently welcome feedback from managers to improve sales presentations.
  • Maintain high standards of sales performance whether or not the manager is present.
  • Plan sales goals with Store Manager and demonstrate ownership of store’s sales performance.
  • Show passion for product education and showmanship to create results.
Teammate Recruiting, Training and Development
  • Recognize recruiting opportunities via Jobs & Careers cards, email referrals and teammate recommendations.
  • Coach and build relationships through Guest Loyalty and Guest Preferred programs.
  • Develop skills of new teammates to meet retail, safety and sales standards.
  • Maintain a positive floor culture.
  • Model appropriate dress code and fashion trends.
  • Participate in daily training and performance reviews.
  • Motivate teammates to complete daily tasks set by Store Management.
  • Passion for denim showmanship and fit cards.
  • Balance supervisory activities within your segment and complete the mid‑week check‑in.
  • Execute actions from department calendars and track them on the weekly delegation worksheet.
  • Lead during segments and involve guests more with product.
  • Keep teammates updated and remember guest names.
  • Show merchandise on both sides of the apparel range.
  • Collaborate with Store Manager on education focus and weekly delegation.
  • Support business goals across all segments.
  • Recruit staffing needs and maintain contact lists.
  • Execute leadership playbook and account for characteristic pieces.
  • Train on non‑sales positions and lead with constant sales focus.
  • Identify and act on teammate training needs.
Visual Merchandise Management
  • Own and influence product through zone ownership, meetings, and daily learning goals.
  • Execute new tools and videos for zone ownership and zone questions.
  • Partner with Store Manager to delegate, demonstrate, and review all visual zones.
