The Intercollegiate Athletic Director will provide vision and leadership for the athletic programs by developing plans, organizing, coordinating, and managing all aspects of intercollegiate athletics on both campuses. The Director is responsible for Athletic Department fundraising; manages schedules, staff, budgets and public relations for all teams and is responsible for all records necessary for eligibility. The Director implements and directs the athletic programs at the College in compliance with the rules and regulations of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) and in accordance with the College’s Board Policies.

The Director is also the manager of facilities and equipment, which are part of the program. The Director also serves as the institutional representative to the NJCAA, Region 11 and ICCAC.

This position is a full‑time professional services position with a starting salary of $80,000 per year. Estimated start date of June 1, 2026.

The position also includes the full SCC benefits package—medical, dental and vision insurance, life insurance, long‑term disability, sick leave, vacation, discretionary leave, paid spring and holiday breaks and participation in IPERS or TIAA retirement plan.

Terms of employment are per the employment contract and relevant policies and guidelines of the Board of Trustees.

The position will uphold college policies and procedures and support and participate in college‑wide initiatives. The incumbent is expected to actively promote a positive image for the college district and support SCC’s mission, vision, values and goals.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Commitment to the comprehensive community college philosophy.
  • Supervise all aspects of the athletic programs and ensure compliance within the NJCAA and ICCAC regulations, SCC Board Polices and Institutional Guidelines.
  • Oversee all operations of the athletic department.
  • Coordinate and supervise the intercollegiate athletic program through each team’s head coach and the head athletic trainer.
  • Develop, implement, and communicate athletic department philosophy and goals with the SCC administration, faculty, student‑athletes and alumni.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures with guidelines for managing the athletic department.
  • Ensure that all guidelines for personnel actions are properly processed according to SCC requirements and that they adhere to all college, state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain an organizational structure that clearly defines reporting lines, key tasks and responsibilities.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor fiscal planning of the athletic department, including budget management.
  • Formulate and implement athletic policies including long‑range planning with regard to department personnel, additional sports, budget, and facilities.
  • Submit recommendations to and coordinate athletic department decisions with the President.
  • Select and maintain a staff of highly qualified and successful head coaches and athletic training staff.
  • Promote a collaborative and unified approach across the athletic department.
  • Provide support for the professional development of coaching staff and athletic training staff and publicly promote their individual and team accomplishments.
  • Attend team practices and games to assess and evaluate coaching techniques and team morale; provide in‑person support for the coaching staff and student‑athletes. Conduct and present an annual evaluation on each head coach.
  • Coordinate activities and use of the Loren Walker Arena and the Indoor Sports Facilities with the Director who manages the Greater Burlington Area Sports Facilities – The Courts and The Turf – and its associated programming.
  • Collaborate with Advancement division on all fundraising efforts.
  • Develop yearly plan for fundraising goals for each sport and monitor progress towards those goals, inclusive of the coaching staff.
  • Serve as chief advocate for Black Hawk athletics in the community.
  • Serve on college, conference, and national committees.
