Position TitlePolice Officer – Signing Bonus.
Signing BonusEligible candidates who have completed the police academy and meet Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA) certification requirements are eligible for a $5,000 signing bonus. The bonus is paid after successfully completing the probationary period and requires a two‑year employment commitment following probation.
Salary InformationStarting pay depends on experience and qualifications:
New OPOTA‑Certified Police Officer: $70,200 annually. With one year of experience: $76,876 annually. With two years of experience: $83,304 annually. With three years of experience: $90,334 annually.
The Fairfield Police Department comprises 66 sworn officers, responding to over 30,000 service calls annually. Specialized units include investigations, school officers, K9 teams, bike patrol, SWAT, and a regional drug task force. A civilian workforce provides support services. The department operates out of a modern facility and enjoys strong community support.

- Age – minimum 21 years by the exam date; maximum 35 years at the time of original appointment unless prior service in the Ohio Police & Fire Pension Fund or equivalent transferable law enforcement service exists.
- Citizenship – U.S. citizenship required.
- Education – high school diploma or GED. Associate degree in Criminal Justice or OPOTA certification preferred.
- Driver’s License – valid Ohio driver’s license required.
- Vision – corrected to 20/20.
- Language – proficiency in English required.
- Academy Certification – preferred but not required. If hired without certification, the City will cover academy costs, and the officer will be paid $3 less per hour during training.
