POSITION SUMMARY

The Teacher Assistant works cooperatively with the Lead Teacher and Teacher Aide to plan and implement the daily education program for children. Under the supervision of the Master Teacher, the Teacher Assistant executes classroom activities and helps maintain a developmentally appropriate environment that meets children’s individual needs.

The Teacher Assistant collaborates with the Lead Teacher and Teacher Aide to plan and participate in indoor and outdoor activities aimed at enhancing all areas of child development. They are responsible for supporting the implementation of programming requirements in line with the standards of Educare West Dupage.

Essential Job Functions

  • Participate in training on the Educare Model and stay updated on curriculum and other required trainings.
  • Implement curriculum and support lesson planning.
  • Understand Developmentally Appropriate Practices and Child Development principles.
  • Assist in planning and implementing activities that promote all developmental areas, including language acquisition in both Spanish and English.
  • Guide and facilitate children’s activities, including daily routines and equipment setup.
  • Collaborate with staff to ensure smooth center operation, adapting as needed for children's needs.
  • Write weekly observations following assessment procedures.
  • Assist with home visits and parent conferences to discuss child development and progress, helping parents develop observational skills.
  • Support children’s social and self-help skills, including nutrition practices.
  • Guide children’s social skills development.
  • Attend staff and parent meetings as required.
  • Help maintain a safe, healthy, and developmentally appropriate environment.
  • Assist with implementing IFSP and other documentation accurately and timely.
  • Support transition activities and family recruitment efforts.
  • Participate in professional development plans and supervision sessions.
  • Engage in active supervision, maintaining constant vigilance and knowledge of each child's development and abilities.
  • Follow organizational policies, guidance, and conduct codes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Requirements

    Skills/Abilities

    • Experience working effectively in a team.
    • Ability to positively represent the organization.
    • Strong planning, organization, and implementation skills.
    • Good visual and auditory acuity, with correction if needed.
    • Ability to work respectfully and cooperatively with the team, supporting their knowledge and skills.
    • Physical ability to lift 55 pounds, support children on/off changing tables, and participate in outdoor activities in various weather conditions.
    • Experience working with a diverse staff and client base.

    Educational and Experience Requirements

    • An Associate’s Degree in early childhood education, child development, or a related field with at least 18 semester hours in relevant courses, or
    • Child Development Associate Credential or 9 semester hours in relevant courses,
    • Knowledge of child development principles and best practices for infants and toddlers.
    • Willingness to pursue additional coursework as needed.
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
    • Willing to obtain Gateways to Opportunity credentials as applicable.
