2nd Grade Teacher

Summary

To create a flexible elementary grade program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for elementary grade education, in accordance with each pupil's ability; to establish good relationships with parents and with other staff members.

• Teach district approved curriculum.
• Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
• Develop lesson plans, instructional material, and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
• Translate lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
• Communicate regularly with parents outside the normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
• Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
  
  Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
• Identify pupil needs, make appropriate referrals, and develop strategies for individual education plans.
• Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day.
• Plan and coordinate the work of para-professionals, parents, and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
• Create an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers, and exhibits of students' work.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Education:
  
  Bachelor of Arts degree (or equivalent).
• Certification:
  Valid South Carolina Early Childhood Teaching Certificate.
• Experience:
  
  Demonstrated ability to teach elementary grade curriculum and adapt instruction to diverse learner needs.
• Skills:
  
  Strong communication, classroom management, lesson planning, data-driven assessment, and collaboration with parents and colleagues.

The employee will regularly stand, walk, talk, and occasionally lift items weighing up to 25–50 lbs. The position may require frequent movement within a classroom, traveling on school buses, and occasional travel to off‑site locations. Typical occupational noise level is moderate to loud. Other related physical requirements may be specified as needed.
