Position Summary

Responsible for planning instruction and/or adaptation of the education program to enable students to benefit from educational experiences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Instruct individuals and groups in special education skill areas.
  • Plan curriculum, lessons, and special‑education programs and teaching methods.
  • Evaluate student progress based on papers submitted, test scores, and observation.
  • Monitor student progress in and outside the special‑education room.
  • Maintain the physical environment of the classroom.
  • Maintain contact with parents of students.
  • Determine goals, objectives, and directives based on work output and observation.
  • Prepare report cards, educational records, IEPC forms, classroom observation records, and other required forms.
Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises students.

Qualification Requirements

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree in education.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Teaching certificate with Learning Disabilities or Multicategorical special education endorsement.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of geometry, and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Skills and Abilities

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of assigned students; establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents, and community; communicate clearly in written and oral form.

Physical Demands

Requires frequent walking, standing, bending, and twisting. Vision requirements include peripheral and close vision for reading typewritten material. Occasionally required to lift weight up to and exceeding 25 lbs (e.g., students, wheelchairs, equipment).

Work Environment

Moderate to loud noise level. Requires frequent interaction with the public and staff. Responsible for safety and well‑being of students. Compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other statutory requirements.
