Overview
Civil Engineer (5-8 Years of Experience) — AVCON, INC. based in Columbia, South Carolina. The engineer is part of a design team working on small and large airport infrastructure planning and design, stormwater design and permitting, pavement evaluations, airfield pavement designs, site and facilities design, utility system design, and related services. Responsibilities include generating engineering reports, construction plans, project specifications, assembling permit applications, and providing engineering oversight during construction.
Responsibilities- Assist in design elements to complete a project, component, or system with other team members, involving conventional plans, surveys, investigations, structures, and/or equipment.
- Assist in preparation of complete project documentation, including plans, specifications, and engineer estimates, and organize project data.
- Evaluate, select, and adapt standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to project assignments; formulate and solve problems with guidance.
- Plan and coordinate detailed aspects of engineering work; manage multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects to meet deadlines and budgets.
- Assist in preparing project scopes, tasks, budgets, and schedules.
- Assist with proposals including bid documents, project reports, studies, and other documentation.
- Attend project meetings and present aspects of engineering assignments as needed.
- Interact and collaborate with clients, contractors, and other project team members.
- Occasional nights and weekends may be required with little or no advance notice.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering.
- 5-8 years of experience;
Aviation, Transportation, or Site Development background preferred. - Construction administration experience desired.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Proficiency with MS Outlook, MS Excel, and MS Word.
- Strong working knowledge of FAA Advisory Circulars and Federal/State funding desired.
- Familiarity with North Carolina airport community desired.
- Ability to work cooperatively with all levels of employees, management, and clients.
- Ability to organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and follow up with minimal supervision.
- Maintain confidentiality and protect privileged client information.
- Ability to work calmly under pressure in a high-volume office environment.
- Knowledge of correct English usage, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and vocabulary.
- Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
- South Carolina Professional Engineer licensure or ability to obtain North Carolina licensure within six (6) months of hire.
Work typically occurs in a clean, pleasant, and comfortable office setting. Site visits may occur in outdoor environments.
Physical RequirementsRegularly required to talk or hear; may sit for long periods; may stand, walk, use hands, reach, climb or balance, stoop or kneel; may lift up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 40 pounds occasionally. Vision requirements include close, color, and ability to adjust focus.
Tool/Personal Protective EquipmentCandidate will be required to utilize PPE including gloves, sleeves, leather protectors, hard hats, safety vests, safety glasses/shields, hearing protection, safety shoes, and other tools as required by task.
