Job Summary

Perform professional outpatient physical therapy services that are concerned with the restoration of function and prevention of disability following trauma or disease. Service may include various tests, measurements, exercises and modalities.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor of Science Degree or Higher in Physical Therapy, or graduate of a PT program approved by the American Physical Therapy Association or other program considered equivalent by the South Carolina board.
  • Experience:

    None required.
  • Licensure:
    Licensed by the SC State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners.
  • CPR Certification.
Essential Functions
  • Provides direct physical therapy to patients upon referral by a physician, or advanced practice provider.
  • Demonstrates age specific competence to provide developmentally appropriate care for infant, child, adolescent, adult and geriatric populations.
  • Evaluates patients using physical therapy tests and measurements such as muscle testing, functional ability, range of motion and neurological testing.
  • Develops treatment plans.
  • Administers treatments designed to relieve pain, develop or restore function and maintain maximum performance using therapeutic exercise, manual therapy and modalities.
  • Documents treatment data, progress notes, evaluation reports and discharge summaries.
  • Instructs patients and families in home programs.
  • Supervises and monitors plan of care when carried out by a physical therapist assistant.
  • Represents the department and communicates effectively with the interdisciplinary team.
  • Consults with other professionals regarding patients’ physical therapy plan of care.
  • Takes orders from physicians’ offices and hospital patient care team.
  • Schedules patients as needed.
  • Represents department in meetings and provides in‑service classes to other departments.
  • Assists in providing clinical supervision of physical therapist assistants and students.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by supervisors, or authorized personnel as required in an emergency.
  • Uses effective time management to complete patient care assignments and meet departmental productivity standards.
  • Demonstrates sound professional judgement in accordance with the state physical therapy practice act, hospital, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Assesses treatment process and acts according to acceptable standards of practice and departmental policies.
  • Participates in professional activities for continued self‑development.
  • Meets deadlines and commitments with minimal supervision.
  • Uses safe techniques and patient handling equipment for protection of patients and self.
  • Demonstrates competence in safe delivery of care.
  • Maintains an optimistic and professional image and excellent customer service to patients, visitors, physicians, and co‑workers.
