Responsibilities
1. Representing Detained Clients
  • Conduct in-person visits to immigration detention centers to meet with clients, gather essential case information, and assess legal options.
  • Advocate vigorously for detainees in removal and bond proceedings by preparing and delivering persuasive oral and written arguments to secure release or defend against deportation.
  • Perform comprehensive case assessments, gather and analyze evidence, and develop tailored legal strategies aimed at achieving the most favorable outcome possible for clients in detention.
2. Representation in Immigration Court (EOIR)
  • Represent clients before the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) in cases involving Asylum, Cancellation of Removal, and other forms of relief from removal.
  • Prepare and file motions, briefs, appeals, and other legal submissions with meticulous attention to legal standards, procedural requirements, and strict deadlines.
  • Conduct witness preparation, evidence presentation, and direct/cross‑examination in court to effectively advocate for clients’ rights.
3. Representation in USCIS Interviews
  • Prepare clients for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) interviews by explaining procedures, reviewing potential questions, and building client confidence.
  • Review, and submit petitions, applications, and comprehensive supporting documentation for various immigration benefits, ensuring complete accuracy and compliance with USCIS regulations.
  • Maintain proactive communication with clients throughout the USCIS process to keep them informed and engaged in their case.
4. Representation in Family and Probate Hearings for SIJS
  • Represent clients in California Family and Probate Courts for Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) matters involving minors who have been abandoned, neglected, or abused.
5. Additional Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive legal research and draft motions, briefs, and appeals to support litigation strategies in all practice areas.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients, providing updates on case progress and offering compassionate, clear guidance through their legal challenges.
  • Supervise and collaborate with the legal department’s support staff to ensure effective case management, accurate filings, and timely submissions.
  • Any other responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in Immigration Court (California Bar membership preferred).
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven experience in immigration law, with a strong focus on detention center representation, EOIR proceedings, USCIS interviews, and SIJS cases.
  • Exceptional legal research and writing skills, with the ability to draft persuasive motions, briefs, and appeals.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, capable of explaining complex legal concepts to clients and advocating effectively before government agencies.
  • Strong analytical skills, high attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple cases under tight deadlines.
  • Deep passion for immigrant rights and a commitment to delivering high‑quality legal services with integrity and professionalism.
  • Fluency in Spanish is highly preferred but not required.
  • Salary dependent on experience
