Job DescriptionThe Account Specialist is responsible for maximizing opportunities for the product portfolio within a single geographic region. This individual will develop and maintain strategic business relationships with a wide spectrum of customers, including hospitals, IDNs, academic institutions, outpatient accounts, long‑term‑care facilities, government accounts, and specialty private practice. The role focuses on increasing patient access to portfolio products, developing new business, expanding current business, and maximizing resource utilization to achieve geographic sales goals.
Pursuing a solution‑oriented and collaborative approach, the role will involve networking, client services, and a thorough understanding of institutional and medical practices.
- Advance hospital and specialty customers along the sales continuum, gaining prescriber commitments through effective questioning, active listening, and utilization of approved data and resources.
- Deliver on‑label presentations and sales calls to highlight product benefits and risks, creating awareness and addressing therapeutic gaps to achieve sales goals.
- Develop professional relationships and distinguish the Anti‑Infective portfolio’s value proposition at all levels—from C‑Suite to support personnel—to further product use.
- Problem‑solve product and patient flow through specialty pharmacy, specialty distribution, and buy‑and‑bill channels; coordinate stakeholders across departments to align on patient‑focused solutions.
- Understand and address customer needs, building strong relationships that provide market intelligence and support compliant, innovative programs.
- Achieve success in a complex, matrixed, account‑based selling environment, consistently partnering with Abb Vie in‑field teams and internal stakeholders to design appropriate tactics.
- Create, develop, execute, and monitor strategic geographic business plans, determining appropriate department, channel, HCP focus, and frequency for each account.
- Source, interpret, and utilize key data to maintain working account profiles and relationship maps for all territory accounts, targeting key stakeholders to expand physician usage and customer base.
- Attend and actively participate in local boards, societies, conventions, and other HCP meetings; represent Abb Vie and assigned products while ensuring all communications are on‑label.
- Complete all Abb Vie required training and maintain adherence to company policies, OEC/Legal procedures, and healthcare industry representative credentialing requirements.
- Collaborate across multiple departments within healthcare institutions and across organizations, working with cross‑functional partners to develop compliant communication strategies.
- Bachelor’s degree in health, sciences, pharmacy or business‑related field preferred, or equivalent industry experience. At least five years of equivalent experience is required if a bachelor’s degree is not held; a high school diploma/GED must be provided.
- Account‑based selling experience in hospitals, wound care centers, or infusion centers with a history of navigating matrix environments and complex customers such as IDNs, academic institutions, and outpatient accounts.
- Knowledge of formulary approval process and experience driving formulary approvals, including buy‑and‑bill and specialty pharmacy products.
- Documented history of strong sales performance and consistent top‑performer status in a challenging market or product portfolio. Proven advanced sales skills with ability to communicate complex products simply.
