This position is for a Manufacturing Engineer Co‑op that will work at the OEM aero nozzle manufacturing facility in West Des Moines, IA. The role is designed for a student seeking experience in applying engineering principles in a manufacturing environment. If selected, the employee will become familiar with Collins Aerospace products, manufacturing objectives and state‑of‑the‑art manufacturing techniques.

Immersion: Full‑time, Monday‑Friday co‑op session, running May/June – December (including the fall semester). Students are expected to take a semester off from coursework to fully engage with this working mentorship opportunity.

What You Will Do:

  • Use Solid Works CAD to develop tools that enable manufacturing, aid process improvement or address safety concerns.
  • Conduct studies pertaining to cost control, cost reduction, inventory control through the application of Lean principles.
  • Solve manufacturing engineering problems of varying levels of complexity.
  • Create assembly work instructions utilizing Microsoft Office.
  • Assist in resolving quality, productivity and safety turn‑backs for manufacturing engineering.

What You Will Learn:

  • A variety of processes required for manufacturing gas turbine engine fuel nozzles in a fast‑paced aerospace environment.
  • Processes such as welding (laser, TIG and resistance), vacuum brazing, heat treat, EDM, laser marking, non‑destructive testing, assembly and test.
  • Skills for working in a cross‑functional team with exposure to design engineering, quality engineering, performance development, materials engineering and operations management.
  • Preparation for a future full‑time manufacturing engineer role at Collins Engine Nozzles.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent and currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Machining and/or assembly experience through work or school, including fixture design, tooling design and GD&T experience.
  • Knowledge of 3D printing for tools and/or fixtures.
  • CAD design experience – Solid Works is a strong plus.
