Description:
The Paramedic at Mercy One provides professional care for acutely ill and injured patients incorporating the education and skills learned as a certified paramedic for all age groups in ground ambulance pre‑hospital and hospital environment. It is guided by Mercy One Ambulance protocols or direct medical control.
Employment Type: Part time
Essential Functions:
- Assess patients with a variety of medical conditions or injuries.
- Prepare patient care reports within 24 hours of completing the ambulance trip.
- Triage, prioritize, and anticipate patients’ needs. Develop a plan of care.
- Provide ongoing evaluation, alter the plan of care as indicated, and document findings and interventions.
- Implement interventions consistent with protocols, documenting response to treatment.
Minimum
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
- High school diploma preferred or high school equivalency.
- Current certification as a Paramedic in the State of Iowa required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire. The acceptable credentialing body for this requirement is the American Heart Association.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire. The acceptable credentialing body for this requirement is the American Heart Association.
- Proof of completion of Dependent Adult and Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training within 3 months of hire.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training required within three (3) months of hire.
- Valid driver required. Must meet Mercy’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, be at least 18 years of age, and be eligible to drive per Iowa state law.
- Emergency Vehicle Operations training within six (6) months of hire.
