Description:

The Paramedic at Mercy One provides professional care for acutely ill and injured patients incorporating the education and skills learned as a certified paramedic for all age groups in ground ambulance pre‑hospital and hospital environment. It is guided by Mercy One Ambulance protocols or direct medical control.

Employment Type: Part time

Essential Functions:

• Assess patients with a variety of medical conditions or injuries.
• Prepare patient care reports within 24 hours of completing the ambulance trip.
• Triage, prioritize, and anticipate patients’ needs. Develop a plan of care.
• Provide ongoing evaluation, alter the plan of care as indicated, and document findings and interventions.
• Implement interventions consistent with protocols, documenting response to treatment.

Minimum

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• High school diploma preferred or high school equivalency.
• Current certification as a Paramedic in the State of Iowa required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire. The acceptable credentialing body for this requirement is the American Heart Association.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire. The acceptable credentialing body for this requirement is the American Heart Association.
• Proof of completion of Dependent Adult and Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training within 3 months of hire.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) training required within three (3) months of hire.
• Valid driver required. Must meet Mercy’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, be at least 18 years of age, and be eligible to drive per Iowa state law.
• Emergency Vehicle Operations training within six (6) months of hire.
