What You’ll Do
:
As an Ag Underwriter, you will exercise underwriting judgment to determine rate and risk selection for all agriculture lines of business. This includes reviewing changes, making modifications, rejections, cancellations, and non‑renewal decisions in accordance with FBL policy. You will assist and educate agency force through daily interaction and assist the claims department with ag claims settlement questions. You will define, implement and monitor a client service strategy consistent with our company’s mission and vision.

You will also provide in‑office support for the Ag Marketing Underwriters. You will drive the retention of profitable business through sound underwriting decisions and exceptional customer service.

• College degree or equivalent plus 5 years of relevant insurance experience.
• Agriculture background/knowledge and underwriting/claims/insurance experience (preferred).
• Strong customer service skills, solid verbal communication and professional writing skills; maintain a positive, customer‑focused attitude.
• Excellent problem‑solving, analytical and organizational skills.
• Strong computer skills to quickly learn multiple systems.
• Maintaining up‑to‑date knowledge of local, state and federal rules and regulations to ensure compliance.
• Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure and shift priorities.
• Progress towards industry education (AINS, AFIS, CPCU, etc.) is expected.
• Work from our office in West Des Moines, IA.
