As an Ag Associate Underwriter, you will assure the continuous growth of the company by the selection of desirable Agriculture lines of business. You will assist agency staff in selecting and writing new business, as well as respond to underwriting questions and concerns from the agency force. These questions are answered via phone, email and workflow. Your duties will include re‑underwriting existing business with the objective of modifying or eliminating undesirable risks in a manner that will promote the best interest of the company.

You will monitor the book of business to reduce the company’s losses while driving the retention of profitable business through sound underwriting decisions and exceptional customer service.

• Agriculture background/knowledge strongly preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent plus 2+ years of relevant experience is required. College degree preferred.
• Must have excellent problem solving, analytical and organizational skills.
• Strong customer service skills, including strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to spend 30-40% of your day on the telephone, while spending the majority of your time at a desk.
• Must keep up‑to‑date regarding local, state and federal rules and regulations to insure government compliance and meet company guidelines.
• Must be able to work under pressure and shift priorities to achieve corporate and business unit goals, including the ability to meet deadlines, negotiate and cope with stressful situations.
• Strong computer skills are required to quickly learn our multiple systems.
• Progress towards industry education is expected (Associate in General Insurance (AINS), Agribusiness and Farm Insurance Specialist (AFIS), etc).
• Work 8am-4:30pm Monday through Friday from our office in West Des Moines, Iowa.
