We’re seeking a collaborative and strategic Associate Director of Development to join our Advancement team. In this role, you’ll develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to identify, cultivate, and engage corporations and foundations whose priorities align with DMU’s mission.
Through meaningful, mission-driven connections—both locally and nationally—you’ll help build a robust network that advances DMU’s vision and fuels its continued growth.
- Develop and carry out all functions of building a corporation and foundation gifting program and fund raise for priority initiatives at Des Moines University Medicine and Health Sciences.
- Research, identify, qualify and evaluate potential major gift contributors through examination of past records, individual and corporate contacts, and knowledge of communities. Maintain historical records of all interactions in Raisers Edge.
- Utilize DMU leadership and volunteers, as appropriate, to assist in cultivating partnerships with key stakeholders and community partners to increase philanthropic support of the university from greater Des Moines community.
- Collaborate with campus partners in order to solicit corporations and foundations for funding.
- Research grant opportunities, write grants and submit grants on behalf of DMU.
- Utilize Cayuse so that campus partners are aware of funding asks to corporations & foundations.
- Responsible for DMU’s annual Glanton Event including, but not limited to, identifying the location & date, securing contracts, planning the event, soliciting sponsor ships, recognizing donors, partnering with University Marketing on all materials including direct mail, email & any print materials needed, securing lead donors, designing the program, executing the event & securing at least $300,000 annually in support of the Glanton Fund.
- Assist the President, Vice President of University Advancement, and collegiate deans as appropriate in their development & fundraising responsibilities.
- Travel, both local & national, in order to meet with prospective donors and friends of Des Moines University.
- Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of three years related experience (i.e. sales, marketing, fund raising, or comparable experience) required.
- Raisers Edge knowledge preferred.
- Experience in a university or major college setting or the fundraising arena is preferred.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to travel local & nationally 20 percent of time as required.

The salary range for this role is between $70,000 - $78,000, depending on experience.
