Job Summary: Provide comprehensive medical care within scope of practice to clinic patients. Collaborate with other medical professionals in a team environment and maintain professional medical standards. Commit to professional growth and competence while adhering to all laws, regulations, and UCS Healthcare policies, including HIPAA and CARF requirements. Serve patients with a patient‑centered approach, ensuring the highest level of care.
Essential Functions:
- Administer medications to patients in treatment.
- Perform nursing assessments and H&P’s on all new admissions or readmissions when necessary.
- Review patient prescriptions and OTC medications to ensure proper prescription and patient awareness of adverse reactions.
- Perform, interpret, record, and report on‑site TB tests and other testing as ordered by physician.
- Perform venipuncture and injections as ordered by physician.
- Carry out all physician orders, including telephone orders.
- Assist the physician with clinic patient rooming and ensuring compliance.
- Record and report all observed symptoms and changes in the patient’s condition to the interdisciplinary team and medical director if necessary.
- Communicate patient status through legible and precise documentation.
- Make appropriate health referrals whenever necessary.
- Count client medications and initiate call backs to monitor for diversion or abuse/misuse.
- Answer all phone calls relating to nursing/medical questions and make appropriate referrals.
- Make appropriate requests to provider when medication dosage change is indicated and carry out those orders accurately and timely.
- Obtain urine specimens according to agency policy and federal regulation and report results.
- Review eight‑point criteria for take‑home medications.
- Perform daily nursing assessments on patients in the detoxification program.
- Assist clients with guest dosing.
- Provide first aid to patients and staff as needed and make appropriate referrals.
- Provide technical assistance to staff in understanding patient medical problems.
- Assist in monitoring patient activities while on center property.
- Maintain licensure as required.
- Keep the Medical Director informed of changes that occur in clinical and medical matters.
Minimum Required Knowledge, Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities:
- Unrestricted license in the state of Iowa as an LPN.
- CPR certificate.
- Venipuncture skills.
- Ability to work independently and exercise discretion and judgment.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; ability to work with diverse populations and handle sensitive information confidentially.
Preferred Knowledge, Education, Experience, Skills, and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
- Previous experience in treating substance use disorders.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods.
- Ability to use a computer and other office equipment.
- Valid driver’s license; reliable personal transportation for travel within the state of Iowa.
- Communication with others to exchange information.
