An externship experience at an NVA hospital offers students the opportunity to understand daily operations and gain hands-on clinical experience. All NVA hospitals share a supportive environment committed to excellent medicine and exceptional service to animals and their owners.
Students will work with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gain experience in patient histories, physical exams, treatment plans, diagnostics, dentistry, surgical procedures, and medical management. They will also develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients.
The externship duration ranges from two to eight weeks, depending on schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate. Students in the clinical portion of their education may be eligible for a travel/living expense stipend. View stipend amounts and stipend program details.
