Grand Avenue Veterinary Hospital is proud to have served the West Des Moines area for over 50 years. Our veterinary hospital is staffed with two experienced, licensed veterinarians – Dr. Christy Wauhob and Dr. Emily Gearig.
The veterinarians and staff of Grand Avenue Veterinary Hospital work diligently to stay up-to-date on the latest advances in veterinary medicine and technology. Our team is committed to educating clients on how to keep their pets healthy year-round by providing information on nutrition, wellness care, and parasite prevention. Above all, we strive to show compassion and loving care to all pets and their families during every exam, procedure, and surgery.

Heartland Veterinary Partners' Externship Program aims to provide veterinary students with hands-on experience and mentorship to help them become 'practice ready' by their first day in practice.
Externships typically last 2 weeks, and Heartland will cover the cost of lodging if needed.
The length of the externship is flexible, and we can support your preceptorship documentation as well.
Requirements/Qualifications:
Eligibility
Must be currently enrolled in an AVMA-accredited veterinary school.
Must be able to provide student PLIT.
