Position: Technician I - Structured Cabling

Technician I – Structured Cabling

IES Communications is seeking a Technician I to join our Structured Cabling team. Candidates will learn and apply industry‑standard skills in a collaborative technical environment. Typically, this role requires 0-1 year of experience and a willingness to grow within the field.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install work area outlets, modular furniture, and wall boxes; drop and route cable using fish tape or equivalent methods.
  • Perform pre‑termination procedures: organize, form, dress cables, determine effective length, slack, and label.
  • Support cable installation correctly using cable tray, J‑hook, D‑rings, Bridal rings, trapeze, etc.
  • Build closet infrastructure—install backboards, cross‑connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic hardware—and provide necessary grounding.
  • Execute fire‑stopping procedures on fire walls, install sleeves, and pull cable through sleeves and core penetration.
  • Terminate low‑voltage devices and complete all IES commercial paperwork accurately (time sheets, work orders, change orders, tool transfers).
  • Adhere to company, customer, and industry quality and safety standards and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Complete additional responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED equivalency.
  • 0–1 year experience in telecommunications or a related technical field.
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
  • Basic construction industry knowledge preferred.
  • Proficiency in using listed tools (screwdriver, drywall saw, torpedo level, measuring tape, snips, pliers, hammer, wrench set, cable stripper, flashlight, gloves).
  • Ability to meet company minimum driving standards (preferred).
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • Work in indoor or outdoor construction environments.
  • Self‑motivated, professional, and proactive in process improvement.
  • Promote company culture among employees, vendors, clients, and business partners.
  • Problem‑solving and critical thinking; effective communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and project documents.
  • Work at heights, ladders, confined spaces; lift up to 50 lb and move up to 75 lb.
  • Color vision, small print reading, hearing audible signals.
  • Travel within branch or regional territory as needed.
Compensation

USD 18.00–23.00 per hour.
