SENDhelp is recruiting a qualified Nurture Teacher for a specialist secondary school in West Drayton supporting pupils with SEMH and additional special educational needs.

The school works with students from Year 7 to Year 12 and requires a calm, resilient teacher who can build strong relationships, establish clear routines and deliver engaging learning in an environment where behaviour can be challenging.

Qualified Teacher Status is essential. Applications are welcomed from teachers with experience in specialist settings, alternative provision or mainstream secondary schools where behaviour management has formed a significant part of the role.

As a Nurture Teacher, you will provide a consistent and supportive learning environment for pupils who may find traditional classroom settings difficult.

You will plan and deliver accessible lessons, help students re-engage with education and support the development of confidence, emotional regulation and positive learning habits. Strong relationships will be central to the role, alongside firm boundaries and a clear, predictable classroom structure.

Some pupils may display challenging behaviour or emotional dysregulation. The successful teacher will understand that behaviour is often a form of communication and will be able to respond calmly, consistently and professionally.

Experience in a specialist SEMH or SEN school would be valuable, but teachers from mainstream schools with strong behaviour-management experience are also encouraged to apply.

• Planning and delivering engaging lessons for pupils from Year 7 to Year 12
• Adapting teaching to meet different academic, social and emotional needs
• Creating a calm, structured and predictable classroom environment
• Building positive and professional relationships with pupils
• Supporting students to develop emotional regulation, confidence and resilience
• Using positive behaviour-management strategies consistently
• Responding safely and appropriately to incidents of challenging behaviour
• Helping pupils re-engage with learning following periods of disruption or disengagement
• Assessing progress and adapting planning accordingly
• Supporting pupils to work towards educational and EHCP outcomes
• Working closely with Teaching Assistants, pastoral staff, SENCOs and other professionals
• Maintaining accurate records and following safeguarding procedures

• Experience teaching pupils within the secondary age range
• Strong classroom and behaviour-management skills
• The ability to remain calm and consistent when behaviour becomes challenging
• The ability to adapt lessons for pupils working at different levels
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• A resilient, patient and dependable approach
• A clear commitment to safeguarding and pupil welfare
• Previous teaching experience in an SEMH, SEN or alternative provision setting
• Experience supporting pupils with emotional dysregulation or barriers to learning
• Experience teaching in a mainstream school with significant behavioural challenges
• Knowledge of trauma-informed, restorative or nurture-based approaches
• Experience contributing to EHCP targets and personalised learning plans
• Training in positive handling or de-escalation strategies
• Relevant training may be available, but candidates must already have the confidence and professional judgement needed to work in a demanding secondary-school environment.
