Summary

The Reading Intervention Teacher creates an engaging, nurturing, and safe learning environment that supports learners’ physical, social, emotional wellbeing; provides instruction, future-ready skills, knowledge, and dispositions to be compassionate, lifelong-learners, and contributing citizens in a rapidly changing world.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Collaboration:

    Develops positive, effective working relationships with learners and staff; engages with district staff in professional learning communities; supports classroom teachers in collaboration of activities to support all learners; serves as a resource and support person for learners in multi-tiered systems of support for reading; develops instructional materials and coordinates the delivery of instruction by support staff.
  • Communication:
    Demonstrates exemplary classroom reading instruction; shares ideas clearly and in formats appropriate for diverse audiences; establishes procedures and routines that promote efficiency; communicates instructional purpose and connects to prior learning; engages learners in meaningful direct instruction, guided practice, and independent practice; uses questions and dialogue to promote critical thinking about diverse perspectives.
  • Compassion:
    Seeks to understand others; empowers learners to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic learners, and ethical users of information; understands cultural and global issues relevant to learners.
  • Creativity:
    Collaborates with team members to improve learner and employee experience; applies creative and critical thinking to challenges; designs assessments aligned to standards with frequent authentic opportunities; fosters a growth-minded culture.
  • Critical Thinking:
    Analyzes information to generate new knowledge; connects content knowledge to pedagogy to develop learner skills.

    Understands diverse social, emotional, and developmental needs of learners; maintains communication with supervisor regarding feedback and growth opportunities.

    Maintains composure under stress; proactively seeks resolutions and addresses knowledge gaps.
  • Responsibility:
    Utilizes district curriculum and proficiency scales; analyzes learner data for reflection and improvement; plans programs meeting learner needs; follows district behavioral plans; maintains a safe and equitable learning environment; tracks learner progress; understands applicable laws; communicates clear objectives for lessons and units.
Education and/or Experience
  • North Dakota Teaching License with appropriate accreditation to teach grades PK-3 or K-8/1-8
  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education or Early Childhood Education
  • Prior experience developing and implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs); managing complex learner behaviors; in a Special Education classroom; and prior teaching experience in an elementary school setting is preferred
Language Skills
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions and short correspondences in English
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally, expressively, and reactively
