Job Summary
Provides support to project managers for the daily observation, development, reporting, and observation of construction projects. Tasks may include basic assistance with contract administration, project planning and scheduling, project reporting, and advising project management on contractual, legal, and other construction project issues. Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding assigned material, installations, and construction specifications. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, compliance, and functionality.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- With minimal supervision, assist with collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, contract documents, and other matrices for project construction.
- Perform basic professional field engineering work on a daily basis relating to conducting research and observations of proposed and existing site conditions, drawings, resources, building, infrastructure, and transportation channels to determine conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits.
- Assist with acting as a liaison to monitor communication and exchange of information between the project manager, engineering team, management, contractors, and vendors.
- Assist with verifying the characteristics of a site and providing technical assistance to project managers and resident engineers on various quality, contract compliance, field directives, and construction issues.
- Write technical reports summarizing construction with findings and conclusions, generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using sketches, calculations, electronic systems, spreadsheets, and software.
- Assist resident engineers and project managers with risk identification and assessment, change orders, materials tracking, pay estimates, and offering input and analysis with construction projects and maintaining documentation to support quality specifications, payment, and project acceptance.
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams in executing project work.
- Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs).
- Complete training on assigned tasks.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and adhere to professional conduct and KLJ's policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, or closely related discipline.
- 1 to 3 years of relevant post education experience
- Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineer exam (FE)
- Knowledge of field engineering and construction management principles, practices, process, and the application to construction observation and project work-related issues.
- Highly familiar with relevant construction laws, codes, standards, materials, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
- Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently on a construction site with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, spreadsheets, and tools.
- Familiarity with any relevant discipline-specific software.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work week.
- Travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
