Design Engineer II – EWS/Wiremold Team

Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Design Engineer II to join the EWS/Wiremold Team in West Hartford, CT. This position is open due to promotional growth within the organization, highlighting its focus on internal career development and advancement.

• Perform design and development work on new and existing electromechanical products, including reviewing, recommending, and appraising work done by satellite facilities, vendors, and offshore design teams.
• Collaborate with the Marketing Product Line Manager to develop product specifications, gain design consensus, determine applicable codes, standards, testing requirements, end‑user preferences, and conduct competitive product analysis.
• Create sketches, 3‑D files, and prototype designs to present options that satisfy product requirements and to gather customer feedback. Evaluate concepts to select the best design and work with the offshore team on final 3‑D models and drawings.
• Research and analyze competitive patents; work with Patent Attorneys to avoid infringement and protect intellectual property by obtaining patents.
• Refine and finalize designs through modeling, prototyping, testing, analysis, piloting, and process inspection; collaborate with Advanced Manufacturing, Tool Shops, and Manufacturing to procure prototypes and production components.
• Oversee completion of product documentation—including engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, quality requirements, and testing standards—to support production.
• Investigate and analyze new materials, components, technologies, and engineering practices.
• Work with listing agencies to conduct and develop standards testing as required.
• Manage projects to rapid and effective completion, spanning departmental gaps.
• Perform other related duties as required.

BS in Mechanical Engineering.

3–5 years of design engineering experience, preferably with plastic injection‑molded, cast aluminum, and sheet metal products.

• Sound technical knowledge and design skills; apply logical and scientific thinking to a wide range of problems.
• Demonstrated creativity in developing product design concepts; ability to create sketches, 3‑D files, and prototypes to express options.
• Ability to incorporate eco‑design principles into new product development and identify ways to improve the environmental impact of existing products.
• Strong organizational and time‑management skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Excellent analytical skills and proven research and summarization capabilities for informed recommendations.
• Highly collaborative and team‑based, fostering open communication and creative change.
• Strong computer skills; proficient with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database software; experience with 3‑D CAD software, preferably Solid Works.
• Excellent project‑management skills: develop and manage project plans, set priorities, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects; understand product costing implications.
