OverviewYale Center for Genome Analysis (YCGA) utilizes diverse cutting‑edge next generation sequencing (NGS) and other genomics technologies to advance breakthroughs in biomedical and life sciences. It is a key resource for Yale that is used by more than 400 principal investigators and has supported many high impact discoveries and publications.
YCGA Director of Operations leads and manages the entire operation, providing expert scientific guidance within the research core and to the YCGA users. The Director of Operations actively collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, engages in experimental work, and fosters a culture of scientific excellence through mentorship and hands‑on leadership. The YCGA Director of Operations will hold a secondary appointment as Research Faculty.
RequiredSkills and Abilities
- Proficient in molecular biology techniques, including knowledge of genomics technologies and epigenetics
- Expertise in operation of core lab and helping with user issues
- Expert‑level knowledge of next‑generation sequencing, single cell genomics and spatial multiomics
- Experience in managing a lab and personnel
- Established or managed a shared resource facility
Skills and Abilities
- A Ph.D. in genetics, molecular biology or a related field and be highly motivated, with a strong record of experience and success using NGS technologies in experimental applications and human genetics
Develop novel training methodologies and train and mentor users of the research core, providing guidance and expertise.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, faculty researchers, and external partners to address research challenges and drive innovation within the research core.
Lead and manage complex research projects within the research core, providing expert scientific guidance and oversight.
Contribute to the development of research strategies and long‑term planning for the research core and foster a culture of scientific excellence, mentorship, and professional development.
Provide thought leadership in the field and contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge through collaborations and partnerships.
Lead the evaluation, acquisition, and maintenance of research core equipment.
Stay updated with emerging research trends and technologies, driving innovation within the research core. Engage in scientific leadership activities, including leading new core initiatives and representing the research core at conferences and events.
Actively participate in manuscript preparation and grant proposals, as applicable.
Foster a culture of scientific excellence, mentorship, and professional development.
Collaborate with the university administration and faculty leadership on research core‑related initiatives.
Collaborate with the Core Director in the development and implementation of strategic plans and budgets for the research core.
Shapes the overall vendor relations strategy, leads high‑level negotiations, and collaborates with vendors on joint research initiatives.
Lead education and outreach activities within the core, including tours, events, etc.
Education and Experience
Master’s Degree in a related discipline and eight years of related experience or an equivalent combination of skills, education, and experience.
