The Yard Worker / Striker plays a critical role in the efficient operation of WH Lumber's retail yard by ensuring the timely and accurate handling of lumber and building materials. This position is responsible for organizing, loading, unloading, and moving inventory within the yard to support sales and customer fulfillment. The role requires close collaboration with sales staff, delivery drivers, and warehouse personnel to maintain a safe and orderly work environment.

The Yard Worker / Striker contributes to customer satisfaction by preparing orders accurately and assisting with special requests or custom cuts as needed. Ultimately, this position ensures that materials are readily available and properly maintained to support the overall success of the retail trade operations at WH Lumber.

• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting heavy materials up to 80lbs.
• Basic knowledge of lumber and building materials.
• Valid forklift operator certification or willingness to obtain one.
• Strong attention to safety protocols and procedures.

• Previous experience working in a lumber yard or similar retail trade environment.
• Experience operating various types of yard equipment beyond forklifts.
• Good communication skills to interact with customers and team members.
• Ability to work in varying weather conditions and maintain productivity.

• Unload and load lumber and building materials from delivery trucks using appropriate equipment and manual labor.
• Organize and stack materials in the yard to maximize space utilization and maintain safety standards.
• Assist customers and sales staff by retrieving materials and preparing orders for pickup or delivery.
• Inspect materials for quality and report any damages or discrepancies to management.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety of the yard area, including removing debris and ensuring pathways are clear.
• Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other yard equipment safely and efficiently.
• Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate daily yard activities and meet operational goals.

The Yard Worker / Striker uses physical stamina and manual dexterity daily to handle and move heavy materials safely and efficiently. Attention to detail is essential when inspecting lumber for quality and preparing accurate customer orders, ensuring satisfaction and minimizing errors. Operating forklifts and other yard equipment requires technical skill and adherence to safety standards to prevent accidents and maintain smooth workflow.

Communication skills are employed to coordinate with sales staff and customers, facilitating clear understanding of order requirements and delivery schedules. Additionally, organizational skills help maintain an orderly yard environment, optimizing space and accessibility for all team members.
