Job Summary
Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, this position is responsible for developing, planning, promoting, implementing, and evaluating community recreation and educational programs, activities, and events. The implementation of the recreation programs requires this position to work an irregular schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Recreation Supervisor and Recreation Coordinator. General supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director.
May exercise some supervision over Recreation Seasonals.
Essential Functions- Assists in planning, coordination, and implementation of recreation programs, which includes evening and weekend work.
- Monitor work activities to ensure compliance with established policies and procedures; ensure all staff operate equipment safely and report any unsafe work conditions or practices to the supervisor.
- Provides assistant leadership for recreation activities as needed; supervises issuing, using, and caring for recreation supplies and equipment.
- Works with the School and other staff as needed to ensure proper activity space and use of property.
- Maintain recreation registration programs; publicly market the recreation programs to encourage community participation.
- Respond to complaints and requests for information promptly.
- Maintain awareness of new trends and developments in the recreation field; incorporate new developments as appropriate into programs.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Methods, techniques, principles, and procedures used in the planning, developing, and administering various community recreation programs.
- The theory and philosophy of recreation and the ability to explain this philosophy to others.
- Various sports equipment used in recreation programs.
- Office procedures, methods, and equipment, including computers and applicable software applications.
- Develop and administer recreation programs suited to the community's needs; plan, organize, coordinate, and direct the development and implementation of these programs.
- Analyze, interpret, and explain policies and procedures; supervise, train, and evaluate employees.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during work.
- Work well under pressure and meet multiple and sometimes competing deadlines.
- Cooperate with colleagues and supervisors.
- Work in inclement weather conditions.
- Work flexible schedules, including nights and weekends.
- Graduation from High School or equivalent.
- Bachelor's degree is preferred in recreation management or some other related field; AND
- Six (6) months of experience performing the above or related duties as an intern or Recreation Specialist; OR
- The City may consider any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the individual to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
- Valid State of Utah Driver's License.
Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office and recreation facility setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard;
to travel to other recreation sites; and to verbally communicate to exchange information. Common eye, hand, and finger dexterity are required to perform essential functions.
Must be able to lift 10-25 pounds occasionally and infrequently lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
Mental application utilizes memory for details, emotional stability, discriminating thinking, and creative problem-solving.
Special Requirements- A twelve (12) month introductory period is a prerequisite to this position.
- Must have a valid Utah driver's license.
- Satisfactory outcome of a pre-employment drug screening is required.
- Satisfactory outcome of a pre-employment physical is required.
- Satisfactory outcome of a pre-employment criminal background check is required.
- Irregular work schedule and may require extended hours, including evenings and weekends.
