Position Summary:
Our innovative research development team is seeking a Medicinal Chemist to assist in the preclinical development of novel targeted therapeutics. In this role you will lead a team in preclinical efficacy and toxicological evaluation of novel therapeutics in various disease states. You will be responsible for managing in vivo preclinical studies with research associates and animal technicians as well as responsible for collecting and analyzing preclinical data.
In this role, you will develop biological assays to evaluate in vitro activity of novel therapeutics. You will be responsible for managing external CROs conducting Toxicology and ADME studies in support of IND filing. Applicants must have a PhD degree in medicinal chemistry, biology, bioengineering, biochemistry, or a closely related field as well as experience performing biology in a laboratory environment.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Supervise a team of lab technicians and research associates
- Design, perform, and evaluate appropriate cellular and animal studies to evaluate efficacy of novel drugs
- Supervise IND-enabling toxicology studies
- Supervise IND-enabling ADME studies
- Design and conduct in vivo preclinical animal studies
- Perform Immunohistochemistry evaluation of tissue sections
- Maintain and manage bacterial and eukaryotic cell cultures
- Maintain and manage imaging, and biomechanical instruments
- Perform, optimize, and evaluate the results from biological activity assays
- Evaluate toxicities generated by drug treatment in serum and tissue samples
- Prepare and evaluate histological samples
- Contribute towards large experiments and projects
- Write and audit study reports
- Write relevant sections of Investigator’s Brochure and IND module 2 or equivalent
- Contribute towards clinical trial designs
- Manage and direct the work of interns, research associates and technicians
Qualifications and Skills:
- PhD in medicinal chemistry, biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, bioengineering, microbiology, or related field
- 5+ years lab experience
- Ideal candidates will have at least 2+ years of industry experience
- Experience running animal experiments
- Experience with ELISAs, qPCR, and other enzymatic assays
- Experience with cell culture
- Experience with in vivo imaging
- Analytical skills for conducting scientific experiments and analyzing them with precision and accuracy
- Communication skills for writing and publishing research papers and reports, giving presentations and communicating with team members
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Graph Pad Prism, Image
J, and other image analysis software - Critical-thinking skills for drawing conclusions from experimental results through sound judgment and reasoning
- Interpersonal skills for working well with others on a team towards a common goal
- Perseverance to be thorough in their approach to problems and in their research
- Problem-solving skills when using analysis and scientific experiments to identify solutions to complex scientific problems
- Time-management skills for meeting deadlines when conducting research and prioritizing tasks
