Are you our next Fiber Tech Splicer?

Do you enjoy blending the best of your physical and mental strength when completing hands‑on tasks? Are you comfortable and confident when you’re working in a variety of environments and conditions? Is attention to detail a strong suit? Would you like the tasks that you accomplish to directly benefit local families, farms, businesses and communities?

If you can picture yourself in this role alongside an amazing team of hard‑working, adaptable colleagues, you may be the next Fiber Tech Splicer for Tipmont and Wintek Business Solutions.

As the Fiber Tech Splicer, you will install, maintain, test, troubleshoot and (as necessary) restore all fiber‑optic services related to residential and business internet — for Tipmont, an electricity and fiber broadband cooperative serving eight counties in north central Indiana, as well as its business division, Wintek Business Solutions.

In conjunction with the work of Tipmont’s Outside Plant team, you will install, repair, splice and test fiber cable in numerous locations — including underground, overhead and indoors. As required, you’ll collaborate with clients to plan installations, document testing results, address areas where fiber plant maintenance is required, and create graphical worksheets for contractors’ usage.

With excellent attention to detail and organization, you’ll play an integral role in shaping regular network access for numerous area homes, schools, farms and businesses.

Duties that intrigue you include:
  • Installing, repairing, splicing and testing fiber cable in a variety of working environments
  • Terminating cable using a variety of connectors
  • Testing cable with optical time‑domain reflectometers (OTDRs), power meter / light sources, and visual fault locators (VFLs)
  • Recording and documenting results of testing (e.g., preparing engineering field notes)
  • Collaborating with the Outside Plant team to implement fiber backbones and laterals
  • Consulting with management to address areas where plant maintenance is needed
  • Operating an aerial lift and bucket truck
  • Creating graphical worksheets for contractors using staking sheets and other programs
  • Working with clients to assist in planning fiber installations as required
  • Performing duties and using company vehicles / equipment with safety and professionalism
  • Furthering industry knowledge through ongoing, regular training and development
  • Upholding quality workmanship that surpasses industry standards

You’ll join a company where all employees live by corporate values of innovation, public‑service heart, passion, respect and making an impact. We do more than just speak to those values. We live them out every day — and so will you!

We offer an excellent benefits package, which includes medical, dental and life insurance; 401(k) matching and a pension retirement plan; education reimbursement; and many opportunities for professional growth and mentoring.

Required Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Driver’s license
  • Basic computer skills
  • Physical ability to:
    • Work in adverse weather conditions
    • Work from a kneeling or standing position for long periods
    • Climb ladders with proper equipment up to 25 feet
      • Includes a safety belt, safety strap, hard hat and other equipment as needed
    • Lift and carry loads up to 90 pounds, including a ladder
    • Work with basic hand tools and other specialized equipment with training
  • Availability to:
    • Work overtime when deemed necessary, including holidays and weekends
    • Travel for training or as needed
    • Participate in on‑call rotation
  • Strong skills in communication, organization & problem‑solving, and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
