Overview
S&B is currently seeking a Process Engineer to support our West Monroe, LA team. Must be fully competent in performing all conventional aspects of Process Engineering and application of independent judgement for the evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation of standard process engineering methods and procedures. Responsibilities
May provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers or specialists.
EducationNormally requires at least a four‑year degree in Chemical Engineering and/or Pulp and Paper Engineering.
Qualifications & ExperienceRequires a minimum of 10‑20 years’ experience in Process/Design Engineering or related functional area (or equivalent working knowledge/experience). This includes considerable experience in utilizing various computer software packages and automated engineering and design tools. Some experience working in a Paper Mill environment is preferred. Significant experience as a lead process engineer on capital projects is required. Registration as a licensed professional engineer is highly preferred (or be willing to obtain registration).
Design engineering experience with the following:
- Material Handling – chipping, feeders, screening, washing, conveying, storage, stack/reclaim.
- Recycled Fibers – material handling, screening, cleaning, rejects handling, agglomeration, dispersion, flotation, chemical systems, water systems.
- Pulping & Bleaching – cooking, mechanical, washing, screening, blow heat & NCG, causticizing, bleaching, safety.
- Paper making – stock prep, paper machines, additives, finishing, roll handling for grades (liner, medium, coated board, printing/writing, recycled, pulp machines).
- Power & Recovery – recovery boiler, power boiler, turbines, feedwater systems, cooling towers, evaporators, concentrators, environmental.
- Specific Preferences:
- WinGEMS process modeling
- TAPPI paper machine drive studies
- Headbox replacement project experience
Duties & Responsibilities
- Meets with clients’ technical staff to develop acceptable processes and control features.
- Conducts field trips to existing plants to gather operating data and equipment information.
- Prepares equipment specifications.
- Communicates process design to client and other design disciplines.
- Participates in process safety reviews.
- Prepares operators instruction manuals.
- Participates in preparation of contract proposals.
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of clients, managers, designers and engineers.
